Most Welsh schools have now broken up for October holidays as case numbers soar to the second highest COVID infection rate in Europe fourth highest rate in the world.

The National Association of Headteachers warn that staff illness due to COVID could force schools to be closed as Wales' seven-day infection rate has now reached it's highest level since the pandemic began.

The disruption for Welsh pupils' education is concerning as attendance levels hover around 88% and while the Government will not penalise parents for non-attendance during the pandemic, they have no plans to reintroduced Covid infection restrictions in schools that teaching staff, pupils and Long Covid Kids have been calling for.

Some schools in Wales have taken measures into their own hands and are reintroducing face masks after half-term. Let's hope others follow!

LongCovidKids.org is a patient-led advocacy and support organisation led by Sammie Mcfarland for families of children with Long Covid. Our story started with a short film on the long-lasting symptoms of Covid in children.
