After much thought, Helen has made the difficult decision to step down from her role leading Long Covid Kids Scotland to focus on her health and her family.

For many people living with Long Covid, decisions like this are never easy. Balancing a commitment to others with the realities of a fluctuating health condition takes immense courage. Across our community, people are faced with difficult choices every day as they try to balance their health, family, work and the things that matter most. While we are incredibly sorry to see Helen step back, we fully support her decision and wish both her and Anna all the very best.

Helen has been part of the Long Covid Kids journey since the early days of the charity. Through Long Covid Kids Scotland, she has helped ensure that children, young people and families across Scotland have had a voice, a community and an organisation standing alongside them.

Helen brought passion, humour and a fearless determination to our work. She was never afraid to call things as she saw them, challenge assumptions or ask difficult questions when children and families were not being heard. During those early days, when awareness of Long Covid in children was limited and many families felt dismissed or invisible, Helen's willingness to speak plainly and advocate tirelessly helped ensure that children's experiences could not be ignored.

Helen's impact can be seen not only in the work she led, but in the community she helped build. She played an important role in developing Long Covid Kids Scotland, ensuring that families had somewhere to turn for support, understanding and hope during an incredibly uncertain time. By championing the experiences of children and young people in Scotland, she helped strengthen our voice as a UK-wide charity and contributed to the foundations on which we continue to build today.

Drawing on both her own lived experience and her unwavering commitment to children and families, Helen worked alongside volunteers, trustees, staff and partners to raise awareness, influence change and strengthen our work across Scotland. Her energy, honesty and determination have left a lasting legacy within Long Covid Kids and among the many families she has supported.

On behalf of everyone at Long Covid Kids, we would like to thank Helen for everything she has contributed over the years. Her dedication has helped shape our organisation and strengthen the support we provide to children, young people and families across Scotland.

Although Helen is stepping away from her leadership role, Long Covid Kids remains committed to supporting children, young people and families across Scotland. We are deeply grateful for everything Helen has given to our community and wish her every happiness as she focuses on her health and the future.

At Long Covid Kids, we know that people are far more important than the roles they hold. Helen will always be part of the Long Covid Kids family, and the friendships and shared purpose built over the past six years will continue beyond this transition.

Thank you, Helen.

The digital artwork featured below was created by Anna, Helen's daughter.

Living with Long Covid has profoundly changed Anna's world, and her creativity has become a powerful outlet for self-expression, imagination and storytelling. Through her artwork, Anna communicates experiences and emotions that are often difficult to put into words.

We are grateful to Anna for allowing us to share her work as part of this tribute to Helen, and we look forward to seeing her continue to develop and share her remarkable creative talent.
