New survey suggests reinfection worsens Long COVID

The UK charities Long COVID Kids and Long COVID Support conducted an internet survey to understand people’s experiences.
The findings indicate that, as most people get Long COVID after their first infection, avoiding infection especially in children is critical. The results also underline the importance of avoiding reinfection even if people are fully vaccinated and have recovered from Long COVID.

Dr Elisa Perego, a London-based health researcher focusing on long Covid, says: “Schools must allow flexible hours, personalised schedules, and homeschooling. Long Covid can present with a relapsing remitting pattern, with periods of worsening and others of improvement. It can also present as an invisible illness, and a child can be very ill without looking as such at first glance.”
