Professor Nisreen Alwan
Professor, Health Researcher & Long Covid Scholar
Honorary Consultant in Public Health. Her work bridges epidemiology, inequalities, stigma, and health service access in Long Covid. Her personal experience with sustained COVID-19 symptoms inspired her campaign for the “counting” of morbidity, pushing for recognition of Long Covid beyond hospital metrics.
She leads research into how Long Covid differently affects diverse communities, including studies on patient uncertainty, care inequities, and barriers in ethnic minority groups. As a vocal public advocate and researcher, she contributes to policy debates and public understanding of Long Covid, including in children and young people.
She has supported Long Covid Kids since 2021, bringing her expertise to help elevate our research priorities, interpret emerging evidence, and ensure that affected communities’ voices inform public health action.
