Ummayyah can't get a diagnosis - Long Covid Kids Real Life Stories

“They won’t officially diagnose her.”

This is the struggle Ummayyah and her family faced. They just couldn’t find any support for children suffering from Long Covid.


So when Ummayyah’s blood tests and chest X-rays came back normal, all other medical investigations seemed to stop. Consequently, Ummayyah’s family has been forced to try and manage her condition themselves. They apply heat pads and give her paracetamol for the pain, but the discomfort in her joints is often so bad that she struggles to walk. Rest seems to be the biggest help and, faced with both chronic pain and fatigue, 12-year-old Ummayyah is now educated at home;


Hopefully, this won't be forever.


Ummayyah looks forward to one day being back to her old self. Or at least have enough energy to have some fun. Her family would like to see her walk correctly and eat the foods she used to love. Failing that, they just hope that one day she’s no longer in constant pain.
